The following pictures were taken at the Freedom Parade in Provo. Just FYI . . . it's the biggest Independence Day parade in the nation, boasting more than 200,000 in attendance. Fortunately my mom purchased bleacher seats so we didn't have to camp out (not that I've ever camped out -- the parade isn't that good). Bryan, my brother, is the official photographer for the Meyer family (he prefers photo documentationalist), so you can thank him for the following pictures.

This was taken before the parade even started -- tired kids! Not a good sign. Jayce had his tough-guy look going, but his fatigue lessened the menacing glare.
Okay, I succumbed to the patriotic hype of dressing your kids to the Independence Day theme. I bought the shirt and matching bows . . . what have I become? I tend to avoid trendiness (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I couldn't resist. Alyssa . . . obviously still tired, yet looking so stylin'. I actually gave her symmetrical pigtails! As a pianist, you would think my fingers would be nimble enough to give her amazing hairstyles. That's an incorrect assumption, however.
Okay, Jayce may have his tough-guy look, but Alyssa has the movie star/diva act down pat. What is up with her coolness? She definitely didn't get it from me! Jer's pretty cool, I guess.

Bleacher seats seem to call out to toddlers . . . "Please crawl on me and scare your mom!" I'm not sure what Alyssa was doing, but don't worry, she was perfectly safe.

My children were amazingly well-behaved during the parade. As long as we engaged them and pointed out the details, they were interested. We lasted 80 out of 120 entries before it was too hard to contain them. We left a little early to enjoy a day at Seven Peaks.

I'm glad you had a fun trip! Looks like you had a great 4th of July! I have to say I did miss being there for the parade in Provo and the Freedom Festival. They are the best in my book! Even camping out...sorry, Lisa. I'm glad you all had such a fun time!
Camping out would have been fun in the old days. I just couldn't imagine doing it with my kids!
I meant to say "back in the day". We had so much fun playing games all night and dragging University Ave. Yeah, kids aren't going to be invited to that pre-parade party. Which pretty much means we aren't going to be camping out to save our spots for a LONG time. I still like the Fourth of July in Utah the best!
Congrats on making it through 80 of the 120! I know that wouldn't have been possible with my crazy crew, :)
After reading your and Amberlyn's blogs I'm totally missing celebrating the 4th in Utah, the balloons and fireworks (yeah, no one does fireworks in the streets here - they're all apalled at the idea of children using those dangerous sparklers...) and camping and hiking...
Welcome home! Looks like a super fun 4th! I didn't know the parade was the biggest in the nation! Alyssa looks darling.
Loved the pictures you captured of your kids. Tells the story :)
