UVUphoria

Tomorrow Utah Vally State College officially becomes Utah Valley University. I have to say, this little college to the northwest of BYU has come a long way. I remember way back in the day when it was called UVCC. When it changed to UVSC, I heard it lovingly referred to "UV SuCk" (sorry for the language, Mom). I always saw it as a glorified high school with no dress code. Anyway, to all the UVSC alum out there, I'm sorry for the offense. I was a wayward BYU snob back then. I'm glad Utah County has yet another university to expand young minds. An educational outlet is a great thing. So here's to the new UVU!!!! May you live long and prosper! No hard feelings, eh?

What? No mention of your favorite UVU grad? Well, ok, UVSC since I didn't pay my $25 for the upgraded diploma.

Well do I remember the slight snobiness too. A member of Holli's ward ran into us one night when Holli brought me dinner after class; in church the next week she said "I knew it was serious when a BYU student ventures over to UVSC."

For the record I was accepted to BYU. It just worked out that the UVU Computer Science program was just right for me.

Don't worry Lisa, you don't need to worry about offending Reg...my dad teases him about "Harvard on the Highway" every day! And in fairness to UVU - Better nursing, el ed and computer science students is the word around town.

Lisa,

Say it isn't so!!! There can't really be BYU snobs out there? This revelation has turned my world upside down!

Reg, I'm glad you went to UVU because you've gone far in the programming world -- obviously it was right for you. Selfishly, I think you should have gone to the Y because we could have taken some GE together and mocked our professors. Think of the tales . . .

And yes, Tim, snobs do exist at the Y. I'm sorry to shatter your perception of we perfect Cougars. ;) But you can't accuse me of snobbery now. I was very contrite in my post, asking for UVU to forgive my haughty ways.

However, as much as I'm praising UVU, I need to affirm my devotion to BYU. I'm blue through and through, and although UVU has a few superior programs and is a decent school, I have to give my props to my alma mater. Nothing gives me goosebumps like a sunny football day at Lavell Edwards Stadium . . . singing the Cougar fight song . . . seeing the Y on the mountain as I enter Utah Valley . . . walking around beautiful BYU campus with its perfectly manicured lawns and stately trees. . . I could go on. :) UVU, and every other school, doesn't give me that same kind of rush. So, props to UVU, but I need to give even bigger props to the Y. Is BYU perfect? Nope! But my loyalty lies with the Cougars (sorry Wolverines! :) ).

Okay, after reading my comment, I realize that I am such a nerd! How can you guys be friends with me? :)

Because we have all graduated by now...thank goodness, huh? Just kidding, Lisa, you know we'll all be friends forever. Dixon Middle School closed the deal!

I have to say that if I had to choose, I actually enjoyed my time at UVSC better than BYU. More personable and relaxed. Hmmm...but BYU was fun, too, in different ways.

I was looking through this and saw a reference to me during Ms. Snyder's 8th grade class. I had many outbursts. I hope you can forgive my immaturity. It was fun to see your blog. You have beautiful kids.

I had no idea such big changes were happening! I guess I don't keep up on my Utah Valley news like I should... :)

You have a beautiful family. I truly felt for Jayce's super hero letdown. I won't ever forget the bloody nose I got when I took a flying leap off the top bunk bed wearing my Wonder Woman underwear. Apparently my parents had neglected "the talk" also...

It will always be UVCC to me. Sorry folks. I too am a BYU fan like Lisa :) Maybe that's why we made such good roomies.
