Sea Spiders

Okay, I'm having a posting lull, but I came across an interesting story about deep-sea fish found off the coast of Antartica. I've always been fascinated by the mysterious fish dwelling on the ocean floor. Once I saw an IMAX movie that mentioned a huge jelly fish type-thing as big as a football field! Do you know how often I think about that? Or the fish that generate their own lights to see in the murky depths. . . or all the unknown species that we'll never know about (cue the Twilight Zone music). Maybe I should be a marine biologist and forget the whole motherhood thing since I'm lacking in that department as it is. :) (just kidding, kids -- I love being at home with you!).

Anyway, I've posted a link that shows the Giant Sea Spider. I'm just glad it's deep enough that whenever I swim in the ocean, I'll never come across its wiggly legs. Kind of creepy, but cool!

The fam and me (blondie) . . . .

Steven, the Frankfurt-bound missionary, is on the far right.

Farewell, Steven! Love, Your BLONDE Sis.

My brother had his mission farewell today, so Alyssa and I have been in Provo visiting the fam'. Provo friends . . . I'm sorry I didn't see you. This weekend was a whirlwind, so I had no time. I had such grandiose plans . . . Magleby's Fresh, BYU Bookstore, fun with friends, etc. Alas, it was not meant to be. We'll be up for Independence Day!

Well, since I had a built-in babysitter (Mom), I decided to get my hair done Saturday afternoon. I told the stylist to give me highlights, but to keep it natural-looking. Well, she must have misunderstood because I left the studio looking like a California wanna-be. The change was far more drastic than I had anticipated, and I'm not thrilled. I've always identified with my red hair . . . that's Lisa. I'm NOT a blonde! Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . :) (See, Jer? Seinfeld reference). Vegas friends, be prepared!!! I'm not the same woman I was before I left. I inadvertently morphed into Barbie! :( (though not as skinny, pretty, and accessorized).

Steven and I had our final farewell tonight. He's off to Frankfurt next week. I've been trying to guess what changes in our family will be had by the time he gets back . . . more kids? Wrinkles, yet? Will I still be in Vegas? Will Scott be married? Will Jennifer survive four kids? Will Bryan graduate from PHS with High Honors? Will David and Sheri create a baby with perfect eyes? (being the optometrists they are). So many questions . . . so few answers.

Bye, Steven! You'll do well. Thank goodness for email!

The tale of us . . .

In honor of V-Day, and since I was tagged, here is all you need to know about Jer and Lisa:

How long have you been married? 6 years

How long did you date? Depends on who you ask -- he says 3 years, I say 2 1 /2 (either way, we dated way too long)

How old is he? 34

Who eats more sweets? Jer

Who said "I love you first?" Jer told me months before I told him -- I was so horrible!

Who is taller? Jer

Who can sing better? Me! No question! :)

Who is smarter? I'm book smart but he's more of a common-sense guy (I tend to overthink and miss the obvious). He's also really good at grammar and syntax. I call us even.

Who does the laundry? Me

Who pays the bills? My accountant husband, of course! He's my money man.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do.

Who mows the lawn? Jer. He's a pro.

Who cooks dinner? I assemble dinner -- cooking gives the impression that I actually take time to make mouth-watering meals. Unfortunately, that task is highly difficult since Alyssa must be involved in every aspect of meal preparation (stirring boiling water, using sharp knives -- all the dangerous stuff), or she lets out blood-curdling screams with massive tears as she clings to my legs.

Who drives? Jer. He feels very secure in the driver's seat and insecure when I drive (it's a control issue). As Jayce astutely pointed out to us, Daddy drives with one hand and Mommy drives with two.

Who is more stubborn? Jer, I guess. But I'm good at softening him up.

Who kissed who first? This is so embarrassing since I'm a traditional kind of gal, but it was me. I knew Jer was trying to muster the courage to do it, so I went in for the kill. I couldn't handle the suspense!

Who asked who out first? Jer.

Who proposed? Jer. Whew! Back to my traditional ways.

Who has more siblings? I have five siblings, Jer has two.

Who wears the pants? Honestly, we both do. I always thought Mom ruled the household, but for us we do better with joint decisions.

Seven Not-So-Nice Words

"Mommy, I want Alyssa to go away." :(

On a completely unrelated note, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! I was pleasantly surprised when Jer gave me roses -- as formulaic as that gift is, I still felt a bit mushy inside. :) They're beautiful! We keep vowing that someday we'll have a proper date night, so I figured we'd just delay the celebrating until we could get someone to watch the kids. So, truly, the roses were a surprise. Thanks, Jer! Due to our understated nature as a couple, I won't profess my undying love for you on the blog -- that'll be for later. ;)

Disneyland again?

I know, I know -- you're sick of my Disneyland posts. Yes, we have season tickets, and yes, we do go a lot. However, we never vay-cay with the Meyers, so I thought I'd share some pics. Thanks to Bryan for providing the pictures. Sorry about the weird sizes -- the pictures seemed to be in different formats and I couldn't figure it out.

Alyssa right before embarking on our journey. Since she's not a fan of the carseat, she was blissfully unaware of the long drive ahead.

Jayce preparing for "A Bugs' Life" -- sporting those 3-D glasses.

The Meyer crew about to be soaked on Splash Mountain. As fun as it was, they may have regretted the situation as the night grew colder and they couldn't get dry. From top: Dad, Mom, Bryan, Steven, Sara (Scott's significant other), and Scott (the one with the maniacal expression).

David, Sherry (David's wife), and Steven

Alyssa eating with her entire hand. Hungry girl!

My own little family -- Alyssa, Jer, and Jayce. Jayce was loving those shades . . . he wore them all day.

Goofy Jayce in Bugs' Land.

Scott and Sara, remembering the fun playground days.

We had a blast and the Meyer sarcasm and inside jokes were in full swing. Typical indecisiveness occurred on our last day, but that's to be expected with us. Until next time . . .
