No shirt, no shoes, no service!

(I've always thought that saying was so silly . . . so shirts and shoes are required, but no pants?)

Recently my kids have decided that naked is good. As I try to get something done in the day (i.e. cooking, cleaning, etc.) and leave them to themselves for a moment, they rush in with a grand "Ta da!" and show their bareness. They are so proud -- especially Alyssa, who tries so hard to take her clothes on/off by herself. I stay mellow about it (for if I'm anything but mellow, they'll enjoy the rise out of me), and tell them, very matter-of-factly, to get their clothes back on. However, they insist on a few run-throughs of the house, and I relent because I'm in the middle of some random chore.

I came from a very puritanical, modest upbringing, where nudity was never seen or discussed. I knew it existed, but I was just glad I never had any run-ins with fellow family members. Now here are my kids, taking such glee in this new-found freedom. One side of me says, "Lisa, get their clothes on now!" The other side says, "They're only 1 and 3 . . . lighten up!" I'm leaning towards the latter and figure this is just a stage that will pass. I do insist on clothes eventually, but I do give them that 10 minutes of gallivanting.

Taken in Utah . . . they took their shirts off at Grandma's. At home it's the whole caboodle!

I am not going to leave a comment...you do not want to hear my take on this, as I have 4 clothing optional boys of my own...we will leave that discussion for another day. Have a good weekend.

Holli, now I'm really interested in your take! :) When you feel like expounding, be sure to let me know! I don't know what opinion I should have on this, so any input would be appreciated. :)

I also have clothing free children, most of the time we have the pants issue. Jackson is running around in underwear all the time. I feel like I saw 900 times a day 'Jackson where are your pants? Go put your pants back on.' Carter crawls out of his pants. Even though he walks, he crawls pushing the pants backwards until they come off, then runs around pants-less all day. My family wasn't so clothing strict, we never ran around naked, but my mom never made a big deal about it either. I'm hoping this phase will end at some point if I don't make a huge issue of it. Jacks knows he has to have at least underwear on, and if he wants to go anywhere or outside has to have pants, shirt, shoes. Good luck, if you find a solution let me and my little naked boys know!!

My biggest problem is Sissy insisting she doesn't need to put a pull-up or underwear on before she puts her shorts on... Though I have found both the girls naked in the backyard on a few occasions. I completely feel your pain about turning your back for no more than a moment only to find them doing something they shouldn't; I'm so grateful for blogs that help me realize I'm not the only Mommy going through these type of things... :)

So.. we were at the Sears in January and I bend over to try on a pair of shoes. I look up and who is taking her clothes off?? Alexa. Yes, she decided that now at the store would be a good time to get comfy in the skin. I began to explain to her that she needed her clothes on while we were in the store. She than explained to me that it was ok, she was perfect and she would not put her clothes back on. I than had the store person explain that she needed to keep her clothes on. At which she looks at me like I was crazy, but agreed to put them back on. Agh! Yes, nakedness is very common here at the Wilkins house. Inside and Outside (ah... oh well).

Lisa this is hilarious, it must feel great to them in this heat and to know they can control their clothing as well! You are doing all the right things.

Okay, here goes...First of all, Jessica's commando girl is a crack up...second, my boys are completely clothing optional...I cannot even add comments as to what you should do...one day I will tell you the story of how they solved it themselves (not on the blog). I will just say this...my friend had her little girl go to the bathroom on the display potty in Ikea. That may be the worst of it. Hilarious for us, horrible for her. So hopefully that not only makes you laugh, but makes you feel better, that all they are doing is getting naked.

Thanks, Reg! I did get a good laugh out of that! I'll have to talk to you guys off-the-record about this . . . sounds like you have stories to tell.

Too funny. My boys love to go "free" too and for Shane I'm not seeing him growing out of this for awhile! Oh my, I hope someday my kids will keep there clothes on but for now I give up and only require clothes when 1. people are over and 2. when we go some where.

So funny! I've wondered about the "pants" thing, too!
