Toddler hike

In an effort to expose my children to the great outdoors, we had our first hike at the base of Red Rock, named Calico Springs.

Can I just say how deprived Jayce is? As we drove up he commented on the huge mountains. As a former Wasatch Front girl, I was disturbed. Mountains, you say? They're mere molehills! Actually, it's a poor reflection on me. We need a Utah trip ASAP!

Okay, back to my playgroup. We had three other ladies and a husband attend, and we had a fun time on this very short hike -- perfect for toddlers, but a little underwhelming for the adults as we had prepared for quite a trek (food, supplies, all-terrain shoes [actually, I must take that back due to the flip-flop wearing Tricia and Carrie] etc.). And as we "hiked" across the stroller-friendly wooden decking, we kept reminding ourselves that we live in the desert, so magnificent vistas were not meant to be. If I had been alone, I probably would have been a bit disappointed. However, the kids made everything fun. They brimmed with enthusiasm over the simplest of things . . . rabbit tracks, human tracks, butterflies, burrows, rocks, etc. They really do keep us young!

Okay, I must explain Jayce's "do." He loves it when Dad spikes his hair in the morning, but then he doesn't like the sticky gel feeling afterward and tries to comb it down -- creating an awkward look for such a handsome boy. I'd like to think it adds to his character and individuality. :) But no, we did not do that on purpose.

We had a fun time! It was pretty for the desert and I guess all that matters is the kids had fun and we got out of the house for an adventure!

How fun! The kids look cute especially with the "hair-do" and cute tongue sticking out! I love it! Justin does the same thing with his hair. It must be a boy thing....
