Bye, bye Blondie

Okay, after this period of experimentation (which came late in life for me), I've decided that I can no longer be a blond. As explained in a previous post, my hair stylist went a little crazy with the highlights -- I guess she thought "subtle" meant "extreme." Instead of correcting the color, however, I decided to be wild and just go with it.

Why I can't be a blond:
1. I don't have more fun -- in fact, I'm not that fun of a person. The color doesn't match my muted personality.
2. My fair skin blends with my fair hair and I have no contrast. I'm just pale all around.
3. Blond signifies style, pizzazz, and California-girl appeal. Again, basically restating #1, that's not me.

Why I need to be red again:
1. Red hair is unique in an uncool sort of way, and I wear that badge with honor.
2. Back in Ms. Snyder's 8th grade English class, she stated how people in the Middle Ages thought red heads were insane. Eric Bayles pointed at me and laughed hysterically. I became a stronger person that day.
3. My grandmother said that when she served in Zimbabwe on her mission, the people were stunned to see pictures of her red-headed grandchildren. They thought our hair was gold and we were miraculous. That could come in handy if I'm ever in Africa.
4. In high school, due to an unfortunate incident where I had the exact same first, middle, and last name of another student, the front office would refer to me as "the Red" and the other one "the Blond" on the intercom. If I'm the blond one now, how will PHS alum distinguish me?
In a few weeks I will be returning to my red roots with just a touch of blond for a summer look. I've had such cognitive dissonance with my appearance vs. inner self. My identity will be restored!

I agree, I love your red hair. I can't wait to see your new hair which reminds me I need to do the same thing!

You're hilarious. I'm glad your inner peace will be restored. (although I do think you're fun!) But I understand - I went blonde early on in college, and it felt like I had betrayed my dark roots. Now I think my dark roots are betraying me though because they're turning gray. Isn't gray lighter than blonde? Therefore even more unnatural?? It's just plain wrong I tell you.

For the record, I love your red. I, who used to be a blond, now go to red when I want to be my fun self. Who's crazy now? Gotta love Bayles!

I love your red hair. I used to want red hair when I was younger. Now, I have tons of red highlights. Gotta love the red.

I'm glad you're going back to red! Now if you would just let your hair curl a little... I love your curls, though I have only seen them a few times in my life!
